Privacy and data sources
MyRoad is an unofficial community site. It is not affiliated with any council. It shows bin collection days, lets you download them to your calendar, and can send you a reminder the evening before a collection.
What we store
- On our server, only if you turn on reminders: your browser's push subscription (an address at your browser's push service plus encryption keys) and the property reference (UPRN) of the address you chose, with its collection day and rotation, so we know when to remind you. Nothing else: no name, email or account.
- On our server, not linked to you: caches of address lists per postcode (up to 30 days), collection schedules per property reference (up to 24 hours), house sale records per postcode and crime figures per police neighbourhood, so we don't ask the council or other services again for every visit.
- In your browser: your light or dark theme choice (localStorage). If you turn on reminders, the browser also keeps which address they are for, so the page and its service worker can keep the subscription up to date.
- Server logs record counts (for example, how many reminders were sent) and not your addresses, postcodes or push subscriptions.
MyRoad uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising.
Who else is contacted
From your browser, on an address page (your browser does not contact data.police.uk; crime figures come through our server):
- Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com) for the weather forecast. It receives an approximate location for the address (rounded to about 1 km) and your IP address.
- If you turn on reminders, your browser's push service (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft, depending on your browser) delivers the notifications.
From our server, never with information about you:
- Crawley Borough Council (my.crawley.gov.uk), to list the addresses in a postcode and look up collection dates for a property reference.
- postcodes.io, to find which council covers a postcode and the postcode's location.
- data.police.uk, for crime figures in your police neighbourhood. Our server sends it the coordinates of the address (not your IP address or anything about you) to find the neighbourhood and its crimes.
- HM Land Registry (landregistry.data.gov.uk), for recorded house sale prices in a postcode. MyRoad shows prices, months and property types only, never addresses.
- gov.uk, for the list of bank holidays.
The site is served through a content delivery network, which handles your connection and IP address like any website host.
Links to Rightmove, Zoopla, the NHS, police.uk and council websites open those sites; they have their own privacy policies.
How to turn reminders off
- Open your address on MyRoad and tap the bell (or "Turn off reminders"). This deletes your subscription from our server.
- Or block notifications for myroad.uk in your browser or phone settings. The next time we try to send a reminder, the push service tells us the subscription has gone and we delete it.
- Or email [email protected] and we will remove it for you.
